Kenyan Kipto is this year’s 40th winner Marathon street of Athens with a time of 2:10:34”, which is a record, as the previous one was three seconds slower.
The African runner was the first to arrive at the Kallimarmaro stadium and was abhorred by the thousands of people waiting to applaud the first athlete and the rest of the participants in this classic race. The Kenyan Kilimo finished second and the also Kenyan Kitsana third.
“I want to thank the organizers for inviting me. I want to thank my family. I wasn’t well prepared, I didn’t expect to break the record. I pushed a lot and I succeeded”, underlined the winner of the classic route in his first statements, ERT reported.
The first Greek athlete and, of course, winner of the Panhellenic championship, which is held in the context of the Authentic Marathon of Athens, was Panagiotis Karaiskos.
