An increase of 6.1% was presented by passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by CAA during the period January-September 2024.
In particular, according to the statistics, in the 24 airports managed by the CAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Aghialos, Paros, Syros, ‘Araxos , Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) during the period January-September 2024 the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures of foreign and domestic passengers) reached 9,984,655 persons, compared to 9,413,077 persons in corresponding period of 2023.
September 2024: The state airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” consistently ranks first with the largest passenger traffic among the regional airports
The state airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” served 1,413,761 passengers this September, i.e. an increase of +6.6% compared to last year, where 1,326,028 passengers were served for the same month. At the same time, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at the airports managed by the CAA in September 2024 compared to 2023 were recorded at Sitia airport +66.6%, Milos airport +35.7% and Kozani airport +35.2 %.
8.7% rise in passenger traffic and 6.6% increase in aircraft movements January-September 2024 statistics for the 39 airports show
An increase of 8.7% compared to last year also results in passenger traffic for the 9th month of the year 2024 at all of the country’s airports where commercial flights are conducted (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). Specifically, passenger traffic in the period January – September 2024 reached 65,133,705, compared to 59,901,542 passengers in the corresponding period of 2023.
Regarding the number of aircraft movements (domestic and international aircraft arrivals and departures) in the 9th month of 2024, for all 39 airports in the country whose air traffic control is mainly exercised by the CAA, there was an increase of +6.6% compared to corresponding period of January – September of 2023. In particular, a total of 489,694 flights were carried out, compared to 459,342 flights in 2023.
