He claimed that the stance taken was the same for all candidates
For inaccurate and misleading reports about his role TikTok in the presidential elections of Romania, the representative of the platform from abroad speaks in his statement.
Specifically, the representative of Tik Tok states:
“These inaccurate reports about the elections in Romania are misleading, as most candidates maintain a presence on TikTok but also carry out their election campaign on other digital platforms besides ours. We strictly enforce our Community Guidelines against election misinformation and misleading behavior, and proactively worked with the Electoral Commission to create an integrated Election Center in our app to serve up reliable election information to our community at Romania. We do not allow paid political advertising and require everyone to adhere to our Community Guidelines, which we enforce on an ongoing basis.”
It is noted that yesterday a high-ranking official at the Romanian Telecommunications Authority requested the suspension of Tik Tok pending an investigation into the platform’s possible role in the elections, while the Romanian Constitutional Court today ordered a recount of the votes of the first round of the presidential election, which was held on the 24 November, following the victory of far-right candidate Kalin Gheorgescu. The far-right candidate, although polling in the single digits before Sunday’s election, secured many votes from young voters and Romanians in the diaspora, with his campaign heavily reliant on the video-sharing platform Tik Tok.
