The 25-year-old lives permanently in Athens, but had taken leave and went to his native country
It was about 9:30 on Friday morning when a 25-year-old military man, who lives permanently in Athens but was on leave in Chania and he had gone for a run, passing outside the tombs of the Venizelos.
At a distance of about ten meters in front of him he saw one girlwhich at that very moment fell to the ground and began to convulse.
“I thought he was getting sick epileptic episode. I immediately ran to her, turned her around and held her in such a way that she wouldn’t swallow her tongue. She had convulsions for several minutes, at some point she must have fainted. Finally, after about ten minutes, he recovered,” said 25-year-old Ilias to zarpanews.gr.
Indeed, the 15-year-old had suffered a seizure.
“There was no one at that point, some tourists were further back. After a while a relative of hers came, I don’t know if it was father or uncle. He took her with him, told me he was going to take her to a clinic. I don’t know what happened after that,” he added.
The young soldier’s intervention was decisive, as the 15-year-old could have been seriously beaten or, even worse, swallowed her tongue and run the risk of suffocation. Finally, thanks to the crucial intervention, the case had a happy ending.
“I was also in shock, it has never happened to me before but I am a soldier and I know first aid. I didn’t do anything big, but I want to give a message of solidarity, that we should help each other. And that in all the bad things that happen every day and are brought to us, there are also many positives”, said the Haniotis soldier.
