It “flew” with 28.17 million passengers
Historic record of all times recorded in 2023 passenger traffic at Athens International Airport, “Eleftherios Venizelos”.
According to the first available statistics of Athens International Airport, a total of 28,174,150 passengers used the capital’s airport in the twelve-month period, breaking the 28 million passenger barrier for the first time and far surpassing the corresponding previous record of 25.57 million in 2019. It is worth noting that the 2019 record had already been broken since November as the passenger traffic in 2023 showed an explosive increase and every month created a new record.
Athens Airport passenger traffic during December 2023 amounted to 1.86 million, up 17.1% compared to 2022, but also up 13.6% compared to the pre-pandemic year 2019. Both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels by 11.9% and 19.4% respectively. Compared to 2019, both domestic and international passengers increased by 20.8% and 10.7% respectively.
Overall, the passenger traffic of Athens International Airport during the year 2023 amounted to 28.17 million, increased by 24% compared to 2022, but also by 10.2% compared to 2019. In detail, both domestic, as well as international passenger traffic, exceeded the levels of 2022 by 18.9% and 26.4% respectively, while they showed an increase compared to 2019, by 13.3% and 8.8% respectively.
Flights
Overall, during 2023, the number of flights at Athens International Airport reached 241,604, recording an increase of 13.2% compared to 2022 and 7.1% compared to 2019. Both domestic flights and and international flights increased by 7.4% and 18.1% compared to 2022, and respectively by 10.5% and 4.6% compared to 2019.
