At 748,494 the number of visitors to archaeological sites and museums of the Region arrived in 2024 Western Greece, while in 2023 visitors had risen to 715,367, as evidenced by the official data of the Greek Statistical Authority, presented by the Athens -Macedonian News Agency.
According to ELSTAT data, the total number of visitors increased by 33,127 people last year, compared to 2023.
However, the total number of visitors is significantly influenced by visitors to the archaeological site and the Museum of Ancient Olympia, as well as at the Museum of History of the Olympic Games.
In Ancient Olympia
According to ELSTAT data, in 2024, the year that the flame touch ceremony took place for the Paris Olympics, a large increase in visitors was recorded at the ancient Olympia Museum, but a large decrease in the archaeological site. There was also a slight reduction in visitors to the Museum of History of the Olympic Games.
In particular, traffic was recorded as follows:
*The archaeological site of Ancient Olympia was visited by 301,987 people last year, and in 2023 visitors had reached 481,211.
*The Museum of Ancient Olympia was visited by 286,519 people in 2024, while in 2023 visitors had risen to 85,410.
*The Museum of History of the Olympic Games was visited in 2024,16,620, while in 2023 the number of visitors had reached 17,831.
In total, the archaeological site of both museums visited in 2024, 605,126 people, while in 2023 visitors had risen to 584,452, resulting in a 20,674 increase in visitors.
In the rest of Ilia
In the rest of the archaeological sites, as well as in Museums operating in Ilia, in 2024 it was recorded, compared to 2023, an increase in visitors to the Temple of Epicurean Apollo, in the Castle of Chlemoutsi and the Museum of Pyrgos, while a slight decrease in visitors.
Specifically, the number of visitors was as follows:
*The Temple of Epicurean Apollo visited him in 2024, 31,360, compared to 29,406, last year.
*Hlemucci Castle was visited by 15,931 people last year, compared to 15,531, in 2023.
*The Museum of Pyrgos was visited by 4,524 people last year, compared to 2,464 in 2023.
*The Ilida Museum Collection was visited by 2,470 people in 2024, compared to 2,709 last year.
According to the data, archaeological sites and museums visited 54,285 people last year, compared to 50,110 in 2023, ie visitors increased by 4,175 in 2024.
In Aitoloakarnania
The Castle of Nafpaktos, the Xenocrates Archaeological Museum of Messolonghi, the Castle of Vonitsa and the Archaeological Site of Pleurona attracted most visitors in 2024, while remarkable visits recorded the Archaeological Museum of Thermos and Archaeological Site.
However, the largest increase in visitors recorded the Castle of Nafpaktos, the archaeological site of Pleurona and the Castle of Vonitsa.
In particular, traffic was recorded as follows.
*The Castle of Nafpaktos was visited in 2024, 34,133, compared to 31,226, in 2023.
*The Xenocrates Archaeological Museum of Messolonghi was visited by 7,472 people last year.
*The Museum of Thermos was visited in 2024, 3,444 people versus 2,878 in 2023.
*The Museum of Agrinio was visited by 1,622 people last year, compared to 2,794 last year.
*The archaeological site of the Oinades was visited in 2024, 1,579, for 1,379, in 2023.
*The castle of Vonitsa was visited in 2024, 2,569, compared to 1,286, in 2023.
*The castle of Antirrio was visited by 1,084 people last year, compared to 1,195 last year.
*The archaeological site of Pleurona was visited in 2024, 1,738, compared to 779, 2023.
*The archaeological site of Calydona was visited by 493 people last year, compared to 277 last year.
*The Roman Thermas of St. Thomas visited them in 2024, 323, compared to 216, in 2023.

The largest number of visitors in 2024 was recorded at the Archaeological Museum of Patras and in the archaeological site of Voudeni, where visitors increased, compared to 2023.
Also, a slight increase was recorded in the number of visitors to the Rio fortress, while a slight reduction in visitors occurred at the Aegean Museum.
In particular, traffic was shaped as follows:
*The Archaeological Museum of Patras was visited in 2024, 26,621, against 24,884, in 2023.
*The archaeological site of Vundeni visited him last year, 6,148, compared to 4,320, in 2023.
*The Museum of Aigio was visited by 1,009 people last year, compared to 1,059 in 2023.
*The Fortress of Rio was visited in 2024, 663, compared to 600 last year.
According to the data, the archaeological sites and museums of Achaia visited 34,441 people last year, compared to 30,863 in 2023, ie visitors increased by 3,578 in 2024.
