Wallet is coming and it will “abolish” digital red tape
For the projects and reforms that the next period brings Ministry of Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou spoke on SKAI TV, noting that in previous years huge steps were taken in order to “show and convince that we can change Greece”. Now, a new era is coming with her entry Artificial Intelligence in the public administration and on gov.gr, he said characteristically, underlining the added value of the advisory committee for Artificial Intelligence that has been established by the decision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
As the Minister of Digital Governance explained, citizens will now be able to type or speak what they are looking for and the digital assistant will “point” the way so that they can find exactly what they are looking for easily and quickly. The “model is currently being trained” characteristically said Mr. Papastergiou and in 15 days the ministry will present it to the general public.
How the new Wallet will eliminate digital red tape
In order to find solutions and implementations that are already “running” at this moment, so that the citizens do not suffer and the public procedures are completed by the public itself, the Minister said, so that irrational situations are not perpetuated. He noted, in fact, that with the new wallet there will be no need to “issue certificates from the public for the public”, but not even to circulate the same documents digitally.
As Mr. Papastergiou explained, with the new Wallet, the citizen will simply give his approval, so that each service or organization has access to specific information that is requested at the given time, in order to complete the required process, such as a new phone connection to a mobile phone company. He emphasized that it will be a simple process, as will be the digital assistant, as “technology should be inclusive and not leave anyone behind”.
The plan for the “National Cyber Security Authority”
Mr. Papastergiou placed special emphasis on the word trust when speaking about the critical area of Cybersecurity and referred to the implementation of a national strategy in accordance with national needs and European commitments. The new structure that will be created with the relevant bill will undertake to coordinate, implement and do controls, so that “we all start to feel much safer in this new digital world”, he emphasized. He also noted that with the implementation of the new directive, NIS2, from the 70 entities supervised today, the umbrella will open to more than 2,000 public and private sector entities.
Important reform of the Personal Number
Identity number, VAT number, AMKA and civil registration number will soon be “replaced” by the Personal Number. A unique number for each citizen, which he will use for all his interactions and will be the only one he will need to know. The Personal Number will consist of the VAT number and three additional digits, two of which will be chosen by the citizen himself, while he added that the procedures are progressing quickly and it is estimated that they will be finished by the end of the year.
