Research on bank lending
Banks expect the demand for will remain unchanged loans by businesses and households in the last quarter of 2024.
As the Bank of Greece finds in its survey of bank lending for the third quarter of 2024, demand for housing loans decreased, due to the level of interest rates and the wait-and-see attitude of households in view of the announcement of the subsidized housing program “My House II”.
Demand for consumer loans remained almost unchanged. For the fourth quarter of 2024, demand for mortgages is expected to remain almost unchanged, while demand for consumer loans is expected to remain unchanged.
During the third quarter of 2024, the criteria for granting loans to households remained unchanged compared to the second quarter of 2024. The overall terms of granting housing and consumer loans also remained unchanged. The criteria for granting housing and consumer loans are expected to remain unchanged during the fourth quarter of 2024.
Regarding loans to businesses in the 3rd quarter of 2024, the criteria for granting loans to them remained unchanged in relation to the second quarter of 2024, a development in line with the expectations expressed in the survey of the previous quarter. In addition, the banks estimate that the criteria will remain unchanged during the fourth quarter of 2024.
The overall terms of granting loans to MNEs also remained unchanged compared to the second quarter of 2024.
In the third quarter of 2024, total loan demand from MFIs remained almost unchanged and is expected to remain unchanged in the next quarter.
The proportion of business loan applications rejected was unchanged from the previous quarter.
