“I felt a man on top of me and I believed he was my husband,” said the accused, describing the incident
Rape by the 43-year-old 15 years ago is cited as the reason for her crime by the 39-year-old, who stabbed the carpenter to death in Chalkida.
According to information from Alpha, the 39-year-old said in her apology, among other things: “We met Sakis through my husband. A few days before our wedding, on October 14, 2008, Sakis came to the house we were building to install some cabinets. That day I was stressed with the wedding preparations, combined with a small fight I had with my husband, which upset me. I was asking for support, which I believed I found in the person of Sakis. While he was at our house, he would hypocritically try to comfort me and help me overcome my sadness. He asked me for a drink. While we had consumed 3-4 drinks, he hugged me and led me to the sofa in the living room and started kissing me.
I asked him to stop, as in a few days I was getting married and he knew that I love my husband, who, as he said, was his friend. I asked him to leave, which he did. Because I was dizzy from the drink, I went to the bedroom and lay down to recover. A little while later I felt a man on top of me and I believed he was my husband. I asked him “did you come?” and he said “yes”. I then asked him if he wanted me to turn on the light because I knew my husband liked to see me and he said no.
I was half asleep and under the influence of alcohol. I didn’t react but during the intercourse I called out my husband’s name. Then Sakis replied “who… I am Sakis”. Then, she got up, dressed and left the house. I got up agitated and trying to understand what had happened. I decided that I should not tell my husband for fear of the consequences. A few days later I called Sakis. We met at my husband’s shop while he was away. There he assured me that the incident would stay between us.”
The defendant then referred to 2011, when according to her “early 2011 my husband received an anonymous call. They told him to pick me up and be careful who he lets into his house. He asked me if something had happened between me and Saki. I told him no, but he wasn’t convinced. For 1.5 years we lived a nightmare, because my husband was jealous and implied all the time. After that time he calmed down and for ten years we lived happily.”
Then the accused jumps 10 years and reaches 2021, about which she says: “At the end of the summer of 2021, my husband received a phone call again informing him that Sakis and I are having an extramarital affair. Then, the nightmare started again. He was pressuring me to tell him the truth. A month and a half later, I disclosed the incident to him and told him that since then it had not happened again. I decided to talk to Sakis to find out the reason he put me through, telling third parties about the meeting we had and to talk to my husband and explain to him what had happened many years ago.
Sakis refused to take responsibility. Some time later my husband met Sakis and asked him to stay away from us. Since then our lives have changed. My husband felt cheated and betrayed. We had constant tensions and fights. I started feeling alone, crying and self-harming. I asked my spiritual for help. I saw a neurologist and a psychiatrist and at the end of 2022 I started sessions and received treatment for six months which I stopped on my own. In May 2023 I went to another psychiatrist, stopped for a while and started intensively from September of the same year.”
On the day of the murder, she emphasizes in her apology: “On Friday night, my husband and I had a fight again over the alleged love affairs I had with Sakis, which he was spreading to third parties. My husband asked me to sleep separately. All night I was upset and looking for a way to solve this situation. I was thinking how much Sakis has humiliated me. In the morning I decided to meet him for the last time and oblige him to go together to my husband and take his responsibilities.
At 6:00 in the morning I started to get dressed quietly. I took two knives from the kitchen and left. I knew the time Sakis left because we had met many times on the street when I went to work with my husband. I knew their house because my husband had shown it to me. I found where his car was parked and waited nearby. When Sakis got into the car, I opened the door and showing him the knife I said “let’s go to my husband now, talk to him, take responsibility and explain to him what has happened”.
He answered me “Come on baby Mr…. , make way” and moved towards me and raised his hand to hit me. Out of reaction, I started stabbing him. Out of reaction, I started stabbing him, in reaction he, getting out of the car threw the knife at me and struggling I took out the other knife I had in my pocket. We kept fighting and I kept stabbing him.”
