The president of the Supreme Court, Ioanna Klapa, refers to the “imperative need for high-level behavior of judicial officers in order to consolidate public trust in justice” in her circular to the judges.
The specific circular, although it does not refer to a specific case, is interpreted as disapproval of the attitude of the public prosecutor towards the complainant in the trial of Petros Filippidis, which caused reactions. In her circular, the president of the Supreme Court, among other things, states that the behavior of judicial officers contributes to maintaining independence at an institutional and individual level.
“The integrity and decency of the behavior of judicial officers within the service consists in the performance of their duties, without favoritism, partiality or discrimination, with calmness and respect for the litigants, without making comments, observations or conclusions based on individual perceptions or preferences” notes Ms. Klapa, pointing out at the same time, that “during the adjudication of cases, in which the parties are persons who could be victims of discriminatory treatment, due to gender, race, sexual orientation, national origin or social origin, judicial officials must identify these situations and to take appropriate measures so that their conduct strengthens public confidence and respect for justice and judges”.
