“What needs to be done are autopsies by the experts and immediate interventions to restore the damages that exist, beyond the three lakes” points out a member of the team of speleologists who discovered them
The discovery of a third and larger underground lake under Kifissos, which has been caused by artificial damage to the underground pipeline, is causing concern.
The “Geomythiki” group and the speleologist and head of the group, Dimitris Theodosopoulos, who discovered the three underground lakes, warn of possible risks of staticity with all that this entails. “It is possible that there are other lakes, because there are still 2 kilometers unexplored in the underground Kifissos. We have been exploring him continuously for the last few years. We have been exploring the underground streams for the last 10 years or so, diligently in all the streams of Attica and Kifissos was the big bet and the most difficult project and that is why we are exploring it in parts. Now, in our latest exploration, we have discovered a third lake, in addition to the other two that we had previously discovered,” speleologist Dimitris Theodosopoulos told Open.
The head of the “Geomythiki” team described the situation as “extremely worrying, because we are talking about the largest river in the basin”. He added that “there are two issues in underground lakes, pollution and static, because there is a lot of damage”. He then noted that the experts will judge if there will be a static problem in the immediate future. “We point out the problem. We discovered the points where there are problems. What needs to be done are autopsies by the experts and immediate interventions to restore the damages that exist, beyond the three lakes”, he pointed out.
For his part, the president of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas, speaking today to ERT, clarified that an inspection by civil engineers should be carried out, but assessed that there is no question of static adequacy of the highway above Kifissos.
