Slow down o inflation in November, as it stood at 3% from 3.4% in October. However, accuracy in food persists with the price of olive oil to rally as within a month it registered an increase of 9.9%.
According to the data of ELSTAT, the General Consumer Price Index The General CPI during the month of November 2023, compared to October 2023, showed a decrease of 0.4%, compared to zero change noted during the corresponding comparison of the previous year.
In food items, the biggest increases on an annual basis are recorded in oils – fats 31.4%, in fruits 12%, in vegetables 10.8%, in mineral water, soft drinks and fruit juices 13.3%, fish 9, 5% and in meats 8.1%.
Significant increases are found in pharmaceutical products 11.8% and in cinemas and theaters 10.3%. Heating oil compared to November 2022 recorded a 6% increase, while the price of natural gas saw a significant drop.
The increase of the General CPI by 3.0% in the month of November 2023, compared to the corresponding Index of November 2022, mainly came from the changes in the following groups of goods and services:
- Of the increases in indicators by:
• 9.0% in the group Food and non-alcoholic beverages, due to price increases mainly in: bread and cereals, meats (general), fish (general), dairy and eggs, oils and fats, fruits (general), vegetables (general ), sugar chocolates-sweets-ice creams, other foods, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices.
• 2.6% in the Alcoholic beverages and tobacco group, due mainly to an increase in prices of alcoholic beverages (not served).
• 6.4% in the Clothing and footwear group, due to price increases in clothing and footwear.
• 1.5% in the group Durable goods-Household goods and services, mainly due to an increase in prices in: goods of immediate household consumption, household services.
• 5.5% in the Health group, mainly due to price increases in: pharmaceutical products, medical-dental and paramedical services, hospital care.
• 2.8% in the Leisure-Cultural activities group, mainly due to price increases in: durable leisure goods, small leisure items-flowers-pets, cinemas-theatres, package holidays. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease in prices mainly in audio and video processing equipment.
• 3.5% in the Education group, mainly due to price increases in: preschool and primary education fees, secondary education fees, tertiary education fees
• 4.7% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to an increase in prices in restaurants-patisseries cafes-canteens. Part of this increase was compensated by the reduction of prices mainly in hotels-motel-inns.
• 1.9% in the Other goods and services group, mainly due to price increases in: hair salons and personal care stores, other personal care items, health insurance premiums, vehicle insurance premiums.
- From the reduction of the index by:
• 1.2% in the Housing group, mainly due to a decrease in natural gas prices. Part of this decrease was offset by the increase in prices mainly in: house rents, house repair and maintenance, electricity, heating oil, solid fuels.
• 2.7% in the Transportation group, mainly due to a decrease in fuel and lubricant prices. Part of this decrease was offset by price increases mainly in: used cars, car parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, air passenger tickets.
• 3.2% in the Communications group, mainly due to a decrease in prices for telephone services.
