Mobile communication unit will remain there for as long as earthquakes last
FOOMI Mobile Satellite Communications Unit has provided free of charge and has been installed in Santorini since the early days of the seismic phenomenon in the Local Government Authorities and the OASP scientific team, Hellas SAT, initiated by the Ministry of Digital Governance and the Secretary General Telecommunications and Post.
As stated in a related announcement by Hellas SAT, the mobile unit ensures satellite telecommunications on the motion on the move to provide uninterrupted and seamless communication between the authorities, services, rescue and scientific groups that attend the evolve phenomenon. This mobile unit will remain in Santorini for as long as the phenomenon lasts.
In addition, Hellas SAT has installed a fixed satellite telecommunications hub that functions as a back up of the existing terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure at the Santorini Town Hall. After the end of the seismic phenomenon, the infrastructure will remain installed in the Santorini Town Hall building and will be allocated as a sponsorship of Hellas Sat for future use as a reserve in existing ground infrastructure.
