According to data from the Bank of Greece
Significant increase by approximately 2.5 billion euros was shown by deposits from households and businesses in December 2024. With the end of the year reaching 150.3 billion euros.
According to the Bank of Greece, their annual rate of change, however, decreased to 2.4% from 2.8% in the previous month.
In terms of businesses, their deposits increased by EUR 3,161 billion in December 2024, up by € 1,718 billion in the previous month and the annual rate of change decreased to 10.8% from 11.9% in the previous month.
In particular, non -financial firms (MXE) deposits increased by EUR 2,919 billion, compared to an increase of EUR 1,368 billion last month.
Deposits of insurance companies and other financial institutions increased by EUR 242 million, compared to an increase of EUR 350 million last month.
Overall, private sector deposits increased by EUR 5,654 billion in December 2024, compared to € 2,269 billion last month, while the annual rate of change decreased to 4.5% from 5.0% in the previous month.
On the other hand, in December 2024, the General Government’s deposits were reported by € 799 million in the previous month, and the annual rate of change stood at 7.5% from -1.7% per% of previous month.
In the loan side, the total debt of the private sector to banks stood at 123 billion euros.
The monthly net flow of funding to businesses in December 2024 was positive by EUR 2,891 billion, against a positive net flow of EUR 898 billion last month, while the annual rate of change was reduced to 14.0% from 16 , 2% the previous month.
In particular, the annual rate of change in non -financial funding (MSE) decreased to 13.8% from 16.0% last month. The monthly net flow of their funding was positive by € 2.00 billion, against a positive net flow of € 1,706 billion last month. The annual rate of change in funding for insurance companies and other financial institutions decreased to 15.8% from 18.2% last month. The monthly net flow of their funding was positive by EUR 891 million, compared to a positive net flow of € 192 million last month.
For individuals (mortgage and consumer loans) positive by just 55m euros was the monthly net flow of funding to individuals and private non -profit institutions, in December 2024, against a positive net flow of € 21 million last month .
Specifically, the net flow of funding on mortgages was just € 8 million while the net flow of consumer loans amounted to € 48 million. The annual rate of change in their funding stood at -0.5% from -0.7% last month.
Overall, the annual rate of change in total private sector funding decreased to 8.9% from 10.0% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of total funding to the private sector was positive by EUR 3,048 billion, compared to a positive net flow of € 1,931 billion last month.
Finally, the monthly net flow of funding to the General Government, in December 2024, was positive by EUR 588 million, against a positive net flow of € 558 million last month. The annual rate of change in general government funding stood at -0.2% from -2.4% last month.
