What the choreographer said about Eurovision
Fokas Evangelinos spoke about the children’s show “The magical Christmas of Pinocchio” that he directs at the Christmas Theater and his career as a choreographer on the show “Pame Danae”, who revealed how his parents reacted when they learned that he would become a dancer.
“It’s a big production. It will be for a short period of time. I have made this show with a lot of love and I am glad that there are young people who sing and dance” said Fokas Evangelinos initially, stressing that in a show if all the partners are not having a good time, then the show will not be successful. Speaking about the beginning of his career and his decision to become a dancer at a time when it was not so common, he said:
“It wasn’t easy then. But I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I was a merchant ship captain and suddenly I’m taking exams and getting into the State Dance School because my teacher saw something in me. I liked dance since I was a child, but I didn’t know what it was. When I decided to take up dancing, I realized that I don’t get tired. I encourage children to do what they want. It’s not easy, but I had a hard time too. My environment at first did not accept that I want to be a dancer. But when you love something, there is no fatigue. When I started, my father told me “if you want to do it, do it yourself”. And I was working so I could go to school. And I’m glad he did, because that made me stronger.”
As he says, there have been people in his life who have helped him a lot in the course of his career and he feels lucky for that. “Roula Koromilas, of course, who put me on TV. Then Dimitra Papadopoulou in “Unacceptable”. And so slowly my whole path changed. I have met people who have loved me and I have loved them.” Fokas Evangelinos also referred to Aliki Vougiouklakis, describing an incident: “We are with Dimitris Papazoglou, the choreographer, and we are doing “The Happy Widow” and we are all to take a picture together. And I’m like “oh, who knows me, let’s go to the corner”. And Aliki says “Dimitris, are we all here?”. I slowly went to the photo and he says ‘okay, now we’re all here’.”
Speaking about Eurovision, he said that he loves it very much and it has opened doors for him. “I don’t know if I will be in Eurovision this year. Maybe yes, maybe not.”
