What are the new challenges for aviation and tourism
In the context of general information to the public, about the course of the 14 regional airports of Greece, the Fraport Greecetheir Management and Operation body, hosted an information lunch with press representatives, highlighting the achievements and challenges shaping the aviation and tourism sector in the country.
The participants had the opportunity to be informed by the keynote speaker, Mr. Giorgos Velos, General Development Manager of Fraport Greece, about a multitude of topics, related to the company’s overall course, but also topics that concern the industry more broadly.
Among other things, the attendees watched the overview of the passenger traffic of the 14 Regional Airports for the first 10 months of 2023, the initiatives and actions of the company to extend the tourist season, the ways and results of the promotion of the 14 destinations in Greece and abroad, but also the challenges of the next day in tourism and the aviation industry.
During the event, the press representatives had the opportunity to talk with the representatives of Fraport Greece, to exchange views on the course of the 14 regional airports, the management of tourist demand and the need for investment in infrastructure, the importance of sustainable development and innovation in the aviation and tourism industry and above all, the new trends, but also the challenges, of the next day.
Regarding the growing development of passenger traffic, the numbers speak for themselves. During the first 10 months, the 14 Greek Regional Airports served a total of 32.3 million passengers (+8.4% vs 2022). During the same period, passenger traffic exceeded 2022 performance at the majority of airports.
At the same time, her role was highlighted Fraport Greece in attracting tourist flows throughout the year. The company has invested over 1.8 billion euros to create modern and secure entry gates in the country. Meanwhile, every year it invests around 50 million euros for the further modernization of airports. Attracting tourists is also carried out through the partnership with national and local agencies to jointly design and implement promotional programs in target markets. Finally, the importance of utilizing communication channels such as social media, the “Incredible Greece” magazine, as well as major international conferences to promote 14 destinations was also emphasized.
Among others, Mr. Giorgos Vilos, General Director of Development of Fraport Greece, said: “the upward trajectory of passenger traffic at the 14 Regional Airports during the first 10 months of the year reflects the competitiveness of the Greek tourism product, which also includes the upgrading of tourism-related infrastructure such as these airports. Nevertheless, it is very important to remain vigilant given the various challenges facing the wider tourism industry, which requires the continuous strengthening of the competitiveness of the Greek tourism product based on global trends, but also the synergies between all of us who are in the first line of the tourism chain of our country.”
