What the data shows
Air arrivals in Greece increased in the period January-August 2024, after 18.9 million international passengers were recorded air arrivalssurpassing January-August 2023 levels (17.5 million), showing an increase of 8.0% or an additional 1.4 million arrivals compared to last year.
In the meantime, 4.5 million arrivals were recorded in August 2024, marking an increase of 7.4%/+311 thousand compared to the corresponding month of 2023.
At the same time, the individual geographical units recorded an increase in the period January-August 2024, with the exception of the Cyclades.
In particular, international air arrivals at Regional airports reached 13.4 million, recording an increase of 6.0%/+761 thousand compared to 2023. In Crete, international air arrivals amounted to 3.9 million, marking an increase of 6.3%/+233 thousand, in the Dodecanese they reached 3.3 million, recording an increase of 10.6%/+314 thousand, in the Ionian Islands an increase of +5.2%/+145 thousand was recorded, with a total of 2.9 million international air arrivals. In the Peloponnese, arrivals reached 167 thousand, marking an increase of +12%/+18 thousand in relation to 2023, it was pointed out in the RES EMP.
On the contrary, in the Cyclades there were 1.0 million international air arrivals, showing a decrease of -1.0%/-10 thousand.
Finally, with regard to Travel Receipts in the period January-July 2024, they recorded an increase of 5.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to 10,953 million Euros.
