What do teachers ask for school units to operate smoothly

Municipal schools have huge shortages of necessary goods, such as stationery, cleaners, photocopier paper, other items of daily use, even toilet paper or handkerchiefs (until the day of the meeting on 5/3). Until now, they have been operating with what they have been able to bought in June last year, which are now exhausted. The above was highlighted by the Principals of the School Units, at a meeting they had with the elementary authority where ELME Piraeus also attended. Specifically they said:
- Until a few days ago, schools had received only 500 or 1000 euros of the first deadline, from last year.
- Requests for the purchase of immediate consumables, using the standing command, are massively rejected by the Municipality. The Municipality promises to be supplied by him, through tendering and the conclusion of contracts with suppliers, as provided by the new institutional framework, but it has not been done and will take many months to do. Schools are practically dry, eating their flesh.
- The consumables delivered by the municipality per month are so few that they cause remains. More refer to a … children’s room than to a school unit. B.C. 3 erasers, 2 scrapers, one scissors, 1 box of paper photocopier, 9 pens, 2 blank, 1 mouse pad and so on. (The items are at the disposal of ELME). The Laboratory Center needs screws, carpenter flanges, materials that cannot be obtained with the fixed payment, as the municipality replies that it will supply them when it is competition … for its own vehicles …
- Even for the approval of the purchase of a material, there is incredible bureaucracy. It takes 4-5 e-mails, with transmitting documents, bids and the answer (usually negative) comes after 10 days. The managers also denounced derogatory behaviors towards them.
- Many photocopies are out of order, so that the municipality allows the use of the constant advance, at least for them.
- There are many technical problems that are not resolved directly, such as garage door to GEL, resulting in the storing school safety.
- Missing guards, as in many schools outside Nice.
- Managers, deputy directions and other colleagues constantly put money out of their pocket or bring themselves consumables, such as stationery, photocopier paper, etc.

- Managers do not know which materials can be purchased with the fixed down payment and which will come from the municipality. Of course, with the new institutional framework, 99% of consumables will be supplied by the Municipality, at some point in the future of course…
The above are characteristics of suffocation facing schools. On the one hand, due to the abolition of school committees. On the other hand, due to the tactics of the Municipality of Nice-Agios Ioannis Rentis, which is fortified behind this institutional framework, resulting in almost any use of the constant advance, arguing that this is illegal … As a result, the already limited money given by the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of the Interior, And the question arises: Where do these (anyway inadequate) go? In a question from ELME, the Mayor of Nice-Agios Ioannis Rentis, broke his cloaks that all the money went to schools. But this is not confirmed. In addition, the Deputy Mayor of Finance said that the budget had provided for an additional 600,000 euros for schools (1.5m euros from 900,000 receiving the interior ministry annually). However, the budget alone says nothing, dozens of times budgets are not executed and rebuilt. There are money on the paper, but there is no paper in schools … no paper. Their answers were by no means convincing. It is recalled that under the responsibility of the Municipality of Nice, most of the deadline was not spent, despite the scary needs of the schools and returned to the Municipality in December 2024.
We also remind you that ELME Piraeus, together with the Nice-Rentis Parents Association and Nice SEPA, took a massive mobilization on 6/2 at the Nice Town Hall (calling for the serious problems of the schools of our municipality, Thursday, Fifth, 6:30 pm: MARTY OF GOMOLASTICHA … – ELME PIRAEUS). Since then, nothing has changed. GEL Rentis’ students were forced to occupy problems with problems at their school (basketball court repair, guard and lack of toilet paper, etc.).
The above situation confirms the estimates of ELME Piraeus in relation to the objectives of the abolition of school committees. It is the financial suffocation of the schools, the restriction of public education and the education of children, which are considered cost and the involvement of private-grants in the operation of schools, with the ultimate goal of categorizing them and their private economic operation. We require immediately:
- to allow the purchase of consumables, absolutely necessary for the operation of schools, with
- Use of the fixed advance.
- to give schools the revenue from the canteens
- to operate the school tab so that each school has a picture of how much it spent from what it is entitled to in the year

The Board of Directors of ELME Piraeus, in consultation with schools, will proceed with new racing initiatives. We are struggling to abolish the new institutional framework for adequate funding of schools from the state budget, based on their real needs, without the involvement of sponsors.
