Significant decline is observed compared to the beginning of the year – further price drop expected in May
Significant decline in liquid fuel prices compared to last year is recorded this year’s April, as a result of the combination of the decline in international prices and the strengthening of the euro over the dollar.
Thus, unleaded is 12% cheaper than last year and diesel is also 13% lower, while 7% more expensive is the LPG. The period is also favorable for electricity prices, which are increasing compared to last year, but record a significant 33% decline from the beginning of the year.
The average price of the unleaded, according to the latest pricing of the Ministry of Development (April 11), stands at € 1,755 per liter against 1,794 at the beginning of the year and 1,962 in April 2024. respectively the oil is € 1.522 from 1.578 in January and 1,715 euros.
The causes of the fall are the international turmoil caused by US duty and concerns about the slowdown of the international economy, and thus the demand for fuel. Indicatively, the refinery price for unleaded last week fell 8 minutes per liter to 53 minutes on April 11 for 61 minutes on April 4. Taxes, wholesale and retail profit margins as well as profit margins are added to the refinery price to raise the final price in the pump. The euro is also positive for the consumer over the dollar, as international crude and products are expressed in dollars.
In electricity – which now supplies in addition to home appliances and the movement of electric vehicles, the developments are as follows: the average retail price fell in April to 13.8 minutes per kilowatt -hour from 17.4 in January (minus the state subsidy), while it was 11 minutes.
The period favors the decline in prices due to excess production from renewable energy and low demand. A combination that even causes stability problems in the network and forces network administrators to cut production by RES. The evolution of prices in the first half of April shows that – if the voltage is not overthrown – there will be a continuation of the decline in prices in May.
