Inflation rise was accelerated last December, as it increased 2.6% from 2.4% a month before and 3.5% in December 2023, with average levels in average last year.

Between December 2024 and December 2023 stands out the fact that the food index, overall, passed on negative territory. According to ELSTAT, the increase in the General Consumer Price Index in December came mainly from the changes in the following groups of goods and services:

1. From 1.7% of the indicators’ increases in the “alcoholic beverages and tobacco” group, mainly due to increased prices in alcoholic beverages (non -served), 6.2% in the “clothing and footwear” group, due to growth. Prices in clothing and footwear, 3.7% in the “housing” group, mainly due to housing prices, home repair and maintenance, electricity, gas. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in heating oil, solid fuel, 3.8% in the “Health” group, mainly due to prices for medicinal products, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, hospital services Care, 3.6% in the “Transport” group, mainly due to prices in new cars, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, passenger transport tickets. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease, in particular, prices in used cars, fuels and lubricants.

Also, 1.9% in the “Communications” group, mainly raising prices in telephone services, 1.2% in the “Recreation-Cultural Activities” group, mainly due to increased prices in information equipment, small species. Recreation-Anni-Coast Animals, Entertainment and Cultural Services, Newspapers-Villages and Stationals, Holiday Package. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction, in particular, of prices on audio and image processing equipment, constant recreation and culture goods, 2.6% in the “Education” group due to increased prices in pre -school and primary education tuition prices, Secondary education tuition.

Finally, 5.9% in the “hotels-brown-restaurant” group, mainly raising prices in restaurants-pastry shops-cafes-columns, 2.6% Motel-Motel-Padel Hotels in the “Other Goods and Services” group, Due to increasing prices in hairdressers and personal care shops, other personal items, social protection services, health premiums, vehicle premiums. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease, in particular, prices in other types of individual care.

2. From 0.3% of the markers’ reductions in the “diet and non -alcoholic beverages” group, due to a decrease in prices in other bakery and pastry products, pizzas and pies, pasta, poultry, frozen seafood, dairy and eggs , oils and fats, fresh fruits, other foods. Part of this reduction was offset by the increase, in particular, of prices on bread, cereals for breakfast, beef, pork, fresh fish, dried fruits and nuts, sugar-chocolates-gluts, , 1% in the “lasting household goods” group and services due to a decrease in prices in direct consumption of household consumption. Part of this reduction was offset by the increase, in particular, prices on furniture and decorative items, home services.

In a monthly comparison, the General Index increased 0.1%, compared to a 0.1% decrease in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

The average index of January 2024-December 2024 increased 2.7% compared to the corresponding index of January 2023-December 2023, compared to a 3.5% increase in the corresponding comparison of January 2023-December 2023 with 2023 In the twelve months of January 2022-December 2022.

In terms of harmonized inflation, it increased 2.9% in December 2024, compared to a 3.7% increase in December 2023. Compared to November, the harmonized index showed an increase of 0.1%, compared to growth, also , 0.1% that occurred in the corresponding comparison of the previous year, while average last year increased 3%, compared to a increase of 4.2% in 2023.
