The catalog states how “Ios is an amazing destination with many alternative activities that has beautiful beaches, a unique atmosphere, an impressive nightlife and a range of options.” On the same wavelength, the Spanish Conde Nast Traveler broadcasts, which ranks Ios Town among the most beautiful villages in Greece, stating that “the amazing view from Panagia Gremiotissa, which is the highest point of the village, is unforgettable especially at sunset. Behind the whitewashed windmills is the Odysseas Elytis open-air theater, very active in the summer. The Archaeological Museum of the island is also located in Chora, where you can admire some archaeological treasures from Skarkos, one of the most important ancient settlements of the Cyclades.”
It is noted that there is an ongoing promotion program for the destination implemented by the Municipality of Ieton with the support of specialized consultants to highlight the destination in established and new travel markets such as the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, USA and others countries. “We are constantly enriching our call with new elements that offer unique experiences. Gastronomy, culture, hiking, cycling, diving, sea excursions, historical and ancient monuments create unique feelings and “bind” romantically with the incomparable natural beauty, exotic beaches and entertainment, forming a destination that now has enhanced pre- and post- high season.
After all, it is no coincidence that in September a cultural project of inestimable value was inaugurated in Ios, the Giannis Gaitis – Gabriella Simosi Museum. The Museum is housed in a unique building with an area of 1,600 sq.m. which was designed by the architects Loretta Gaiti and Jacques Charrat in order to house the permanent and popular exhibition of the Museum as well as parallel periodic exhibitions and events. It is built on top of a hill in a position with a panoramic view of Chora, the port of Ios and the islands of Sikinos, Paros and Naxos, with the vast blue Aegean as a background. The museum in question will be a “beacon of culture” for the Cyclades and Greece, creating the conditions for strengthening cultural tourism in periods inside and outside the high tourist season” said the President of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Ieton, Antonis Mettos.
