“The state must protect him to speak,” says Apostolos Lytras
That he was not an organized fan he repeated, referring to the 18-year-old who has been arrested accused of seriously injuring the policeman in Rentis, his lawyer Apostolos Lytras. “I have a feeling he knows who gave him the flare and is afraid to talk” he emphasized.
The lawyer for the young man who confessed to throwing the naval flare to the 31-year-old policeman, as a result of which he is fighting hard for his life, he spoke on Tuesday morning (12/12) on the Mega show “Society Hour MEGA” with Anthi Voulgari and Iordanis Hasapopoulos. “No strategy changes. What he said and continues to say is that he threw the flare at the policeman himself“, he said characteristically and continued:
“Another flare was thrown at the same time”
“What he basically said is that he wasn’t the only one who flew. Another flare was thrown at the same time, which the police themselves say. This is what has been seen as a change, while there is no change (s.s. in his testimony)” underlined the lawyer.
“He has given three statements, stating that his flare, the one he threw, hit the ground, it was not in a straight shot, which has been heard. The flare struck in front of him because he didn’t know how to throw it. He has been ostracized. It’s totally different for me to target a policeman than for the flare to hit the ground and then go to the policeman. I say it as a legal claim for other reasons, which are not related to the act as such,” noted the 18-year-old’s advocate.
“He deleted Instagram and Facebook which he had, because he no longer wanted to have contact with friends, who went to the stadium together. (…) Right now what I see, in general, is that people are dealing with issues that have nothing to do with it. Let’s say: they have never been on the field and because they are politicians, they are obliged to deal with some issues, which they don’t even know about. The problem is much bigger and much deeper.
“An 18-year-old doesn’t wake up on Sunday and say: ‘what am I going to do today?’ I will go to the stadium in the afternoon to kill a policeman”. There are some who drive this mindset and this behavior. They are the same people who threw Molotov cocktails at the police on November 17, they are the ones who throw flares against the police,” said Apostolos Lytras.
“He has stated in his testimony that the particular person who gave him the flare was wearing a full face and he does not recognize him. My feeling is that he’s scared, that he obviously knows who gave him the flare and is afraid to talkhe underlined.
“The state must protect him to speak. And the state’s point is to understand why an 18-year-old enters this process, what he is afraid of. An 18-year-old child who has not been punished in the past, who has never had a successful involvement, how does he suddenly become, as you say, a murderer” the criminologist concluded.
