What is Copilot that for the tech giant is the focus of artificial intelligence
Changes to the Start button in Windows seem to be what Microsoft is planning, as it considers how it is no longer the focus, with the Copilot button taking the lead role.
In particular, during the presentation of the impressive Snapdragon X Elite, a video conversation between the CEO of Qualcomm and the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, was given the spotlight. In this context, they talked about the cooperation of the two companies, especially in terms of optimizing Windows to run on Arm architecture processors and to use the neural processing units (NPUs) of modern hardware.
In this discussion, Nadella emphasized that for Microsoft the focus of artificial intelligence is Copilot, which exists both in Windows and in various applications, such as Microsoft 365 programs. “In a sense, there is a new generation of AI computers that I think is being created. So the work that we’re doing together, you know, will kind of bring together those experiences that can’t be done without a kind of new architecture,” the Microsoft CEO said.
Of course, he didn’t explain exactly what he meant, but he was probably referring to Windows 12, which according to the data so far will arrive in 2024, will have a very modular architecture and will be terribly focused on AI. “Copilot is like the Start button. It becomes the orchestrator of all your app experiences. So, for example, I just go there and express my intent and it either navigates me to an app or brings the app into Copilot itself, so it helps me learn and ask questions and create. This completely changes, I think, user habits,” he added.
So it seems that Microsoft considers Copilot to be in a way the next generation of Start, through which users will be able to do everything in Windows. Of course, the executive didn’t clarify whether Microsoft actually intends to completely replace Start in Windows 12, but if along with these new statements, we take into account the several times it has emphasized that the next version of the operating system will focus on AI, probably the scenario is not so improbable.
