Information on the progress of Cloud Region’s total investment has offered the Minister of Development, Mr. Takis TheodorikakosDigital Governance, KD Papastergiou, State, K. Makis Voridis and to the Secretary General of Private Investment, Ms. S. Siarapis, General Manager of Microsoft Greece, Cyprus & Malta, Yianna Andronopoulou.
As stated in the announcement of Microsoftduring the visit to the under construction center for data hosting in Spata, Ms. Andronopoulou presented the evolution of work, based on the new Microsoft Datacenter implementation strategy internationally and developed the company’s vision for the development of economy in the country and its conversion In an artificial intelligence hub and cloud in the wider region of SE Europe.
Microsoft is committed to completing, in the best possible timetable, both the ‘Azure Cloud’ complex as well as the GRForgrowth initiative implemented as early as 2020, as part of the company’s total investment in the country. In addition, Microsoft is actively continuing the support program of the local community in Spata, which focuses on education, work and cultural heritage, in collaboration with the Municipality for the best possible focus on the needs of the area. Through the first phase of this program, 600 pupils of public schools and 200 residents and employees have already been trained.
The Greek Azure Cloud area, located in East Attica, will support public and private sectors, with the aim of seamlessly and directly transitioning to the cloud, with high speed and immediate availability connection. At the same time, it will provide organizations and businesses reliable and high -performance solutions, based on the models that Microsoft operates across the Azure Cloud – which exceeds 60 zones and is one of the largest and safest networks in the world. Microsoft’s investments remain perfectly consistent with the company’s commitment to strengthen every individual and every organization on the planet to achieve more, focusing on the responsible and safe use of the cloud, according to the company’s moral values.
In an absolute convergence with the current Greek regulatory framework and to optimize the time of delivery of the Cloud Region in Greece, Microsoft adopts the growth model now implemented by the company internationally. Based on the latter, the company proceeds with the construction of the first of the three Data Centers, while working with its specialized partners for the other two infrastructure of the cluster. The second of the three data centers in the Paiania area is also in the construction phase. The company’s plan to provide Cloud services and artificial intelligence in the wider region and development in accordance with market requirements remains as originally defined and the same applies to the amount of investment. Microsoft’s goal is the Cloud Region to be delivered early 2028.
As noted in the same announcement, in his message, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed the progress of the work and stated: “Work on the construction of the first of the three data centers created by Microsoft in Greece on the one hand are a tangible proof of the government’s close cooperation with the company to implement this iconic investment and on the other hand reaffirm Microsoft’s commitment to our country. Microsoft’s Data Center under the construction of Spata, a project that has been included in the country’s strategic investment, was visited today by the Ministers of State Makis Voridis, Development Takis Theodorikakos and Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou.
