Demand for mortgage loans increased in the first quarter of the year, according to data from the Bank of Greece.
In particular, demand for mortgages has increased due to the start of the state program “My Home II” with the aim of supporting new borrowers with generally favorable terms and final pricing to them, while demand for consumer loans remained almost unchanged for the first quarter. remains unchanged. As for business loans, demand in the first quarter of the year remained unchanged.
According to the BoG bank grant survey, the criteria for lending to non -financial companies (MSE) remained unchanged compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, a development in line with the expectations expressed in the previous quarter research. In addition, banks estimate that the criteria will remain unchanged during the second quarter of 2025.
The total terms of loan to the MSE became more relaxed than in the fourth quarter of 2024, as improving banks ‘liquidity, competition pressures and borrowers have helped to reduce the banks’ margins, especially for the usual loans.
In the first quarter of 2025, the total loan demand from the MSE remained almost unchanged. For the second quarter of 2025, banks estimate that overall demand from the MSE will also remain almost unchanged, although the demand for loan from large businesses is expected to increase.
