Journalist Natalie Kakkava spoke about the psychological violence and emotional abuse she experienced in her work environment as the deputy mayor of the municipality of Saronikos on the show “All about our Life Vita”.
“I found myself in a completely inhospitable work environment, where I was permanently in a position of defense, questioning. In a position where I had to be reduced, to constantly prove that I am not an “elephant”. While I initially believed very much, that with certain people we could be creative, productive and do something good, I finally entered a process where I cried every day” he said and continued: “You know what it is to get up and go to work, in the space you fought to be and a space for which others also chose you? People who manipulate you don’t start out as abusers. They approach you as very good and as soon as they get what they want from you, they start the change.”
Natalie Cacava even described the verbal abuse she received. “A man suddenly picks me up and starts a verbal attack and a thousand other things that I can’t say right now and I start and break down and cry in front of a lot of people passing by. People recognized me and were in shock and luckily for me a lady who was a resident of the area passed by and saw me and came and gave me a hug. Verbal abuse is just as painful as physical violence. I had insomnia, migraines, mood swings.” She mentioned that she felt despair and low self-esteem, while she emphasized that her husband, Grigoris Goundaras, helped her get up and believe in herself again.
The journalist reports that every time she tried to fix their relationship, he was cynical. “When they realized that all the efforts they made didn’t stop me from being productive, they tried to take away my work tools. They falsely created a human profile and it drove me crazy. When I read them, because they also took them out in a press release, I said “it can’t be” and there I said finally I will claim my right”. He even revealed that there was an attempt to blackmail Grigoris Goundara’s husband by the persons in question. “She approached him, put her butt against his and pushed him. I admired my husband’s composure,” said Natalie Kakkava.
