“Nikos Kazantzakis” airport records the most traffic
The total “took off”. passenger traffic for the 11th month of the year 2024 in all of the country’s airports, setting a new record before the end of the year.
According to the statistics of the Civil Aviation Service (CAA), in the passenger traffic for the 11th month of the year 2024 a 9.3% increase compared to last year, 76,249,626 passengers were transported between January and November, compared to 69,774,369 in the corresponding period of 2023.
It is pointed out that the airports have recorded a new annual passenger traffic record, as the recent statistics for the 10th month of 2024 and the 11th month of 2024 have surpassed the entire 12th month of 2023.
Regarding the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and foreign aircraft) for the 11th month of 2024, at all 39 airports in the country, there was a 7.5% increase compared to the corresponding period of January – November 2023, a total of 577,118 flights, compared to 536,679 flights in 2023.
8.1% increase in passengers at the 24 airports for the 11th month of 2024
Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by CAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Aghialos, Paros, Syros, ‘ Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) during the period January-November 2024, in relation to the corresponding period of 2023.
In particular, according to the statistics, the total number of passengers (international and domestic passenger arrivals and departures) for 11 months 2024 (January-November) amounted to 11,733,395 passengers, compared to 10,849,363 passengers in the corresponding period of 2023.
First among regional airports is “Nikos Kazantzakis”.
It is worth noting that also in the month of November, the “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport records the largest passenger traffic among the regional airports. The state airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” served 225,234 passengers in November, i.e. an increase of 26.3% compared to last year, where 178,376 passengers were served for the same month. At the same time, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at the airports managed by the CAA in November 2024 compared to 2023 were recorded at Ikaria airport +64.5%, Naxos airport +33% and Astypalaia airport +29.9%.
