According to the municipal company “GEOTHIRA M.A.E.” they will solve a very important issue of the residents and visitors of the two islands
In a request for the concession of a property to the municipality of Thira, for the creation of a heliport in Santorini, and in a request for the concession of use and exploitation of the Thirasia Heliport, the Touristic Single-Share Municipal Corporation for the Exploitation of Municipal Properties “GEOTHIRA M.A.E.” proceeded.
In particular, with regard to the first request, the rationale for the decision states that the creation, use and exploitation of a heliport in Santorini, which currently does not exist, will generate revenue for the Municipal Enterprise and will resolve a very important issue for residents and visitors of Santorini in which there is currently no helipad. Furthermore, the creation of a helipad in Santorini will bring order to the unruly operation of helicopters on the island and ensure both the safety and well-being of the island’s residents.
As regards the Thirasia helipad, which is currently not operational, its use and operation will also generate revenue for the Municipal Enterprise and resolve a very important issue for the residents and visitors of Thirasia, in which there is currently no properly licensed and operational helipad. Finally, the use and operation of the heliport will also strengthen the area of residents’ safety, as it will now be possible to airlift patients from Thirasia.
