Where will the Greeks go on holiday within and outside the borders during the holiday season
Pin will not fall this year in the country’s winter destinations, with the Greeks visitors to provide 100% occupancy in almost all mountain destinations with special preference for those with theme parks, but also of course those characterized by their proximity to urban centers.
One such example is the Peloponnese, as the vice-president of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers Konstantinos Marinakos notes in APE-MBE. And as the president of the Peloponnese tourist organization, he emphasizes that mountainous Achaia, mountainous Corinthia and Kalavryta had locked their accommodation at 50% occupancy since the end of November in order for visitors to achieve better prices. This year the prices, explains the vice-president of POX, are increased by up to 15% compared to last year, a development that in no way mitigates the losses of tourist businesses from increased energy costs. It is typical, he explains, that the operating cost for a room has increased by 40%, with businesses absorbing 20% and not passing it on to the customer, as this would make the product uncompetitive.
Now, he says, the occupancy is 100% in all the main destinations, always for the festive 15th day, with fluctuations in the intermediate dates. The current situation translates into a “stimulating injection” for the sustainability of the accommodation and the local community, which, however, does not answer the problem of winter destinations, as from January 10 there are no reservations from visitors, says Mr. Marinakos.
Where will the Greeks go on vacation during the holiday season?
The regions that traditionally star during the holiday season, in addition to the theme parks, are also those that have ski resorts, such as Arachova and the wider area of Parnassos, Drama, Kalavryta, etc. In any case, as he notes in APE -MPE the president of the Federation of Travel Agencies in Greece Lysandros Tsilidis, Epirus, Zagorochoria, Tzoumerka, Xanthi, Kavala, Alexandroupoli, Arcadia, Trikala Corinthia and Peloponnese in general, will have significant traffic during the holiday period, as he emphasizes.
Pelion is back on the map of domestic tourism
Pelion is back on the map of domestic tourism as it has largely healed the wounds left by the bad weather, the president of the Association of Hoteliers of Magnesia Giorgos Zafeiris underlines in APE-MBE and speaks of the reversal of the negative climate that existed. Now, the winter accommodations are all open and some that were damaged are opening this week and at very competitive prices, from 60 to 150 euros
100% occupancy of the flight to Rovaniemi
As far as the preferences of Greek passengers are concerned, based on the data that Aegean has already made public, the top international destinations are: from the base of Athens, Prague, Paris, Vienna, London, Zurich, Barcelona, Geneva and from base in Thessaloniki, Paris, Larnaca, Zurich, Dusseldorf, Barcelona, Stuttgart. However, in foreign destinations they also prefer booking packages made through travel agencies. In the top destinations and on the wish lists beyond the classic destinations are also distant destinations, such as Cuba, Brazil and New York. Last minute opportunities include Istanbul in the international network, but also Corfu in the domestic network. It is emphasized that AEGEAN will also operate charter flights during the festive period, which record almost 100% occupancy. Specifically, from Athens to Rovaniemi, while from Thessaloniki it operates charter flights to Prague, Budapest, Basel, Vienna and Bratislava.
