“As a country, we are in favor of free trade”
“Yesterday’s US government announcements are self -evident that they are a historical shift to protectionism and a sudden change in the way the global economic system has operated for decades,” the Minister of National Economy and Finance said, ” Kyriakos Pierrakakiscommenting on yesterday’s announcements by the US president on the imposition of duties, during the meeting on the elaboration and examination of the draft law “Strengthening the Capital Market and Other Provisions” on the Committee on Economic Affairs.
The minister said that these decisions “are a fundamental divergence from how the EU perceives economic and social progress from its establishment”.
Mr. Pierrakakis stressed that “as a country, we are in favor of free trade. We believe that the World Economic War does not favor anyone. And we hope that this chapter will last as little as possible. The effects cannot yet be reflected in their entirety, though they are given that they will be negative. What we saw yesterday is not a static or a dynamic image and it is a given that the economies of the whole world will react in multiple ways and so there will be not one but possibly several rounds of escalation until the new economic balance is imprinted. “
The minister noted that “it is a given that the Greek government is involved and will co -ordinate the single European reaction. The Greek economy, with a plan, with responsibility, will cope with international challenges. “
