EQUALL’s actions aim to abolish gender discrimination, exclusions and stereotypes
THE Piraeus Bank and Diotima Center announced their collaboration for the implementation of an innovative support program for women who have suffered or are experiencing gender-based violence.
The program “EQUALL – Equal opportunities for all” was designed to respond in a targeted manner to the need for empowerment, economic and social self-reliance and independence of survivors of gender-based violence, strengthening their efforts to escape abuse and support an independent life.
As it has been established, the majority of victims of gender-based violence also face problems of financial autonomy and independence, in the context of abusive relationships, domestic/partner violence. In fact, often a form of violence that accompanies others (physical, psychological and emotional violence, etc.) is also economic violence, which concerns the lack of access to financial resources, even to employment.
The new program offers support to women of all ages and social profiles and can especially help those in a precarious financial situation (unemployed or underemployed, etc.), regardless of their formal qualifications. The support provided is based on a specialized scientific approach and methodology that meets the individual needs of women.
The Diotima Center, through its many years of action in the field of prevention and treatment of gender-based violence in Greece and the large number of women it has supported, has the expertise and holistic approach required to support women.
More specifically, the provision of support to women – victims of gender violence through the program “EQUALL – Equal opportunities for all” includes:
A) Personalized supportive psycho-educational professional counseling sessions with the aim of empowering women to recognize their positive and strong points, to creatively and proactively manage their autonomy by utilizing all available resources (material, mental and social) and to achieve the reconstruction of their self-image, the strengthening of their self-esteem and self-confidence.
B) Upgrading qualifications and acquiring (new) skills. Through the counseling support, their professional profile is captured (educational level, previous work experience), informal skills (soft/social skills) are recognized and utilized and their professional (re)orientation is encouraged.
C) Preparation for searching and finding a job.
The duration of the first cycle of the program’s action will be six months and 25 women will benefit from it.
The “EQUALL – Equal opportunities for all” is part of Piraeus Bank’s multifaceted EQUALL program for a society of equal people and includes as its main pillars gender equality, the support of the new generation and vulnerable social groups. EQUALL’s actions aim at abolishing gender discrimination, exclusions and stereotypes, eliminating all forms of violence, empowering women and vulnerable people, as well as promoting equal access opportunities for all people to education, culture, economic independence and personal development.
