Tragic irony that at the airport were the wife and children of Ensign Epaminondas Kostea, who immediately after the flight was going to go on vacation with them
The news of the death of 40-year-old Ensign Epaminondas Kosteas, who lost his life when the Air Force training aircraft he was on crashed in Kalamata, has caused sadness throughout Greece.
Shocking is the fact that the wife and two children of the unfortunate pilot were watching the fatal flight at that time. His sister speaking on the show “Live News”, said that his family has lost the land under their feet after his death. “His wife and children were there. It was the last flight to go on vacation with his family. He would just leave for Crete, because his wife is from there, to spend New Year’s. I think he had more than 3,000 flight hours,” he noted.
“My angel is gone, my child is gone. It was unfair to do it like this, it was very unfair. A very young man. A very young lad, who unfortunately left very ingloriously. He has two small children” added the deputy’s sister. Everything happened shortly after 11:00 in the morning in Kalamata, where under unclear circumstances the training aircraft went down. The crash occurred 500 meters north of the airport gate, near the Ari area in Mikromani.
The unfortunate officer lost his life, while the fatal flight was watched by his family. It is noted that the aircraft was performing a training interception flight and fell shortly before landing, while information indicates that explosions were heard before the fall.
