The phenomenon will affect the planet until Friday
A strong one solar storm is expected to hit Earth in the next few hours, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
On Tuesday night, a significant ejection of matter and magnetic field from the solar corona was recorded and the phenomenon is expected to affect the Earth from today until tomorrow Friday.
Experts have issued a warning for a G4 geomagnetic storm (the second highest on a five-point scale), with a maximum speed of 1,300 kilometers per second.
Accurate predictions can only be made 15-30 minutes before the solar storm reaches Earth, taking data from satellite measurements.
In October 2003, a severe solar storm plunged parts of Sweden into darkness and destroyed energy infrastructure in South Africa.
