The tags will not be the same in all supermarkets, as this is an initiative and each business chooses its own way of special marking
In about ten days, the new signs will be placed on the shelves of all supermarkets that will indicate the consumer products that have joined the price reduction initiative.
As the general manager of the Union of Supermarkets of Greece, Apostolos Petalas, told APE, the marking is a process that requires time, as it concerns 4,200 stores, while new codes are added every day. However, signs have already been placed in some large supermarkets, but it will take about ten days to place the tags in all stores. As pointed out by Mr. Petalas, the marking will not be the same in all supermarkets, as it is an initiative and each business chooses its own way of special marking.
In the meantime, according to information, the initiative has developed a momentum and every day the relevant services of the Ministry of Development are informed of new codes added to the list. According to market sources, it is estimated that in the renewed list that will be announced next week by the political leadership of the Ministry of Development, the number of codes will be close to the initial target of 600 codes and is soon expected to exceed it. It is recalled that the last updated list of product codes that have joined the price reduction initiative included 362 product codes and the reductions range from 5% to 24%.
It is noted that the Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, in a recent meeting he had with representatives of the Union of Supermarkets of Greece, recommended an intensification of efforts on the part of organized retail, so that the new initiative of the Ministry of Development for price reductions on the shelves of supermarket, with the aim of intercepting accuracy. That is, the minister asked the representatives of the supermarkets to extend the target for price reductions to more than 600 codes, to extend the duration of the initiative, as well as to place special markings on the supermarket shelves with the aim of facilitating consumers.
On his part, Mr. Petalas has pointed out that “…our goal is to have significant price reductions in much more than 600 codes and for a longer period of time. Two months is the minimum time limit that was set from the beginning during our discussions on the new initiative.”
