The Apology of the former Attica Regional Governor for the deadly fire in Mati
Former Attica Regional Governor Rena Dourou spoke of a “huge communication effort” to look guilty during her apology to the trial at the Court of Appeal for the Mati’s deadly fire.
“There was a huge communication effort to look guilty. He suffered everyone then. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. To have a political accused, to seem to be awarded justice and go below, “Rena Dourou said, adding that” the relatives of the victims are experiencing a Calvary and “showed” me, they went and said “yes, take that now”. The defendant, denying what is being attributed to her, expressed the belief that with “realities I proved that none of the three categories were respected”.
Referring to the suggestion for organized preventive removal, which was never given, Rena Dourou reiterated that the fire department had the responsibility. “It is impossible, operationally wrong and under conditions dangerous, to decide a non -specific organized preventive removal of an area, without information on the risk of the area, without knowing the time it has, without knowing what the safe route and the safe place of removal is. No prudent man would take such an initiative until 17:30, “he said.
Focusing on the part of the case concerning the extraordinary convocation of the SOPP, Mrs Dourou noted that “a specific briefing of the chief officer will be required to report the future course of the fire, which means its danger”. “The convening of the SOPP is not mandatory in any fire, but it is at the discretion of the Vice -Mayor, to assist him in civil protection actions concerning the consequences,” he said.
Mrs Dourou argued that they “became accused by a single lie” and referred to an interview two days after the fire, when it was said that the Fire Brigade suggested an OPA to the self -government in general and this suggestion was lost somewhere. “We answered immediately, we told the truth, the one we say constantly from the first moment until today. There was a huge communication effort, based on this lie to be considered guilty. This lie, at that time, it suited everyone. And when I say everyone I mean it. But the lie has short legs. Slowly the bodies of justice discovered the lie, “he said and addressed the court: he added:
“You have heard you, no one claims anymore, that they gave a suggestion, and even the responsible person testifies that even if he was asked, he would not. But even today before you, I ask them a question. Why did you let this lie crawling in Greece? First of all to relatives who experienced and experience their Golgotha. “
