Visit of Deputy Minister Vassilis Oikonomou to the Pythian Bridge
The national importance of the reopening of the Alexandroupoli-Ormenio railway line (services started today) for the development perspective of the region and the improvement of connectivity, was pointed out by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for transport, Vassilis Oikonomou, in the context of his contacts during the his visit to Alexandroupolis, in Soufli, Didymoteicho, Pythio, Orestiada, Dikaia and Ormenio.
Accompanied by the director of the OSE, Vangelis Christoyannis, as well as officials of the Organization, he visited the railway station of Alexandroupoli, where he met with the members of parliament of Evros, Christos Dermentzopoulos, Stavros Keletsis and Anastasios Dimoshakis, the regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsides, the deputy regional governor of Evros, Evangelos Poulilios, the mayors of Alexandroupolis, Yiannis Zamboukis, and Didymoteihou, Romylos Hatzigiannoglou, as well as the airport manager of the “Dimokritos” airport of Alexandroupolis, Stelios Zantanidis.
Also, during his visit, he talked with the citizens of the area and with workers at the railway station. He boarded the train for the last test route to Ormenio, confirming the technical readiness of the line, while during the route, he inspected the reconstruction of the Pythian bridge, with the aim of ensuring the readiness of the infrastructure for the reopening of the Greek Railway Union -Turkey.
“The reopening of the Alexandroupoli-Ormenio line is a flagship initiative for enhancing accessibility and the regional development of Evros. We demonstrate in practice our commitment to support the Greek railway, creating the foundations for sustainable development. We invest in projects that not only facilitate transport, but also unite people, regions by responding to their needs” said the Deputy Minister of Transport.
“The Alexandroupoli-Ormenio line is a national line and will be further upgraded. In collaboration with the executives and management of OSE, we have designed a comprehensive plan, having committed to open and upgrade three stations in the area: Orestiada, Soufli and Didymoteicho. With the dynamic restoration of the line, we are sending a clear message: Evros is not left behind, but is at the heart of our national policy” concluded Mr. Housekeeper.
