For her problem accuracy the minister of development spoke to the ANT1 television station, Kostas Skrekas reiterating that further measures will be taken to deal with it.
“We have a series of interventions that have led to a reduction in inflation, but this is not enough”, recognized Kostas Skrekas, noting that, “we never said to cut offers, we said not to increase prices and then offers are made” and reminded that the ministry imposed a large fine for the misleading discounts.
“In 2023 alone we have imposed 13.5 million fines for profitability issues. We see that, after their imposition, the lists are adjusted and the prices are reduced”, he said in this regard and admitting that “these are not enough, we have a series of new measures that we will announce shortly and we will see a series of products being reduced”.
Referring to a number of products, such as detergents, personal care products and baby milk, he said, “it seems that in a number of products the prices are higher than in other countries. We are studying measures to stabilize or reduce prices.”
“We will take measures that correct the prices”, assured the minister.
Answering a related question, he said that companies are obliged to inform the ministry of every revaluation they make.
Talking about baby milk, she said that, “when in 2011 its sale by pharmacies was liberalized, we saw prices decrease, although they remained high. Looks like, that opening wasn’t enough. The four companies are being investigated, as are the distortions that lead to the high price of infant formula. We will fight and take the research to reduce infant milk to the end.”
“Measures will be announced soon for misleading discounts and for baby milk, specific measures that will lead to a reduction in prices on the shelves,” the minister concluded.
