For the government’s intention to clarify, as soon as possible, the landscape of misleading offers and discounts for the benefit of healthy business competition and the protection of the consumer public, the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, informed the representatives of the Union of Supermarkets of Greece.
During the meeting, in addition to the minister, Sotiris Anagnostopoulos and the general secretary participated, and from the supermarket side, the chairman of the board of the association Aristotelis Panteliadis (METRO AEVE), the general secretary, Kostas Mavroidis (GALAXIAS) and the general director, Apostolos Petalas, the following issues were discussed:
– The implementation of the “Christmas Basket” ahead of the festive season
– The evolution of the government initiative “Permanent Price Reduction” and its eventual enrichment with more products marked -5%.
– The planning of the reform of the Ministry of Development to rationalize the operation of the market and prevent the mechanisms that increase the prices on the shelf as well as fictitious promotions.
The Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, after the end of the meeting emphasized: “We had a particularly constructive meeting with the Supermarket Association. It is our unquestionable goal to strengthen the purchasing power of all consumers, especially the most vulnerable, within the conditions created by the imported accuracy. Also, to clarify as soon as possible the landscape of misleading offers and discounts for the benefit of healthy business competition and the protection of the consumer public”.
