New hotels in Sfakia and South Rethymnon
The south is developing into an important pole of attraction for hotel investments Crete, which already has its own stamp on the island’s tourist activities. Specifically, two hotel investments are on track for implementation, one in Sfakia in the prefecture of Chania and another in southern Rethymnon, specifically in the area of Triopetra.
It is typical that the Directorate of Spatial Environmental & Rural Policy of the Decentralized Administration of Crete recently approved the environmental conditions for
a) “New hotel unit with a capacity of 88 beds, 5-star category, owned by the company “South Cretan Holidays SA”, in the Municipal Community of Asfendos, in the Municipality of Sfakia, in the Regional Unit of Chania, Crete”. The unit will be developed on an area of 26,057.36 m2 and will have a capacity of 88 beds in 28 rooms.
b) Construction of a 5-star hotel with a capacity of 600 beds, at Triopetra, in the Municipal Unit of Lampi, in the Municipality of Agios Vassiliou, in the prefecture of Rethymnon, by the “Special Purpose Company 15 SA”. The capacity of the unit, which will be built on a seaside area of 92,273.31 m2, is planned to be 600 beds and 142 rooms. In the meantime, the complex will consist of a central communal building of 3,737.26 sq m.
Speaking to APE-MPE, Ilias Vardakis, president of the Association of Hoteliers of the Southern Regions of Rethymno Prefecture, noted that southern Rethymno is in need of good quality investments. However, small lots of land are not conducive to the success of large investments, as he explains. This year, the wider area of southern Rethymnon moved to higher arrivals than even 2019, a record year for Greek tourism. It should be emphasized, however, that the beds in this area do not exceed 3,500 and the daily traffic does not exceed 7,000 visitors.
