Who will first see in their bank account the tax refund they are entitled to
Even faster this year, offsetting and tax refunds for taxpayers will be made, which, after submitting the tax return, results in a tax refund.
Consistent taxpayers – with no tax or insurance debts or information free – by credit clearance, will see within a week of filing the return to their bank account, while for those who have tax debts, AADE will proceed with the taxpayer. The first offsetting tax refunds will take place on 5-6 April 2025.
Tax refunds
Specifically, the status of this year with this year’s tax returns provides for the following:
- Income tax refunds to taxpayers who do not have tax or insurance debts or free of charge, will be sent to the Bank of Greece for immediate refund on a weekly basis.
- Income tax refunds to taxpayers who do not have information free of charge and tax or insurance debts will be offset centrally per week, starting from April 5-6. Those offsetting that cannot be carried out centrally are processed as soon as possible by the competent services, DOU / KEVES, without the requirment of a tax return request by the taxpayer.
- Income tax debts will be offset as priority with refund rights, which exist or will be born until July 31, 2025, so that in the event of repayment of income tax through offsetting, the rate of deduction corresponding to the submission time of the declaration is granted.
IBAN statement
It should be noted that a prerequisite for the return of taxes to the beneficiaries is the right statement of the IBAN account at the MyAade Digital Portal on the IBAN Account Communication / Communication / Statement. The IBAN accounts that the beneficiary holds to payment service providers in countries within the Single Payment Area (SEPA) are accepted.
On… Decreasing Tax Refunds of 168 Million
Meanwhile, taxpayers’ drawers are “stagnating” tax refunds of € 168 million, with AADE searching for taxpayers to refund the money they are entitled to. According to the latest data from the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the total amount of pending tax refunds in January 2025 “inflated” by EUR 184 million and amounted to € 915 million from € 731 million in December 2024.
Of all the outstanding refunds, € 205 million relates to direct taxes, EUR 570 million indirect and € 119 million are ranked non -tax revenue. Also, out of EUR 915 million, EUR 365 million relate to refunds that have become overdue, as 90 days have passed since the issue of individual discount sheet (APCE), while EUR 549 million relates to pending tax refunds that are not overdue since it has not been over 90 days.
From the stock of pending refunds that have become overdue, ie from EUR 365 million, EUR 168 million are amounts that cannot be repaid due to mainly exogenous factors, such as the non -response of the beneficiaries or the non -submission of the necessary supporting documents.
