Nearly 700 of OpenAI’s 770 employees had threatened to quit
OpenAI announced during the last night the return of co-founder Sam Altman’s heada few days after his dismissal from this start-up company, his creator ChatGPT.
“We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as president and CEO” with changes to the board, which will include former Salesforce co-CEO Brett Taylor, former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, OpenAI explained in a message posted shortly after at 22:00 yesterday, Tuesday, evening in California (today at 08:00 Greek time).
“We are working out the details. Thank you for your patience during this time,” the company explained in this message.
Sam Altman, whose recruitment was announced by Microsoft yesterdayon Monday, three days after he was fired from OpenAI, asserted for his part that he has the support of Satya Nadella, the head of Microsoft, to return to head OpenAI.
“With the new board and with Satya’s support, I am eager to return to OpenAI and build a solid partnership” with Microsoft, Altman wrote in X.
On Monday, former Twitch chief Emmett Shear even announced that he had agreed to temporarily take over the position of head of OpenAI.
According to a letter published by American media, nearly 700 of OpenAI’s 770 employees had threatened to quit if the 38-year-old did not return Sam Altman.
