How would you like to eat in space with a view of planet Earth?
A space technology company in New York is preparing to offer the most expensive dinner in the world and even… off Earth.
SpaceVIP will host six people in a… balloon in space at a cost of $495,000 per head. The daring company has enlisted Michelin-starred chef Rasmus Munk from Copenhagen’s Alchemist restaurant for the journey, which will be a six-hour journey, and is expected to set off in 2025 from Florida.
The dinner will take place aboard Space Perspective’s Neptune, the world’s first carbon-neutral spacecraft. The pressurized craft will use a so-called giant ‘SpaceBalloon’ to slowly climb to an altitude of more than 100,000 feet, giving guests stunning panoramic views from the largest windows ever flown into space.
Unlike a hot air balloon, guests will even be able to use “a proper toilet” that SpaceVIP calls the Space Spa. Those who book a seat will pay for more than just a trip to space and dinner, as French fashion house Ogier, according to the Mirror, will also outfit each intrepid traveler in special clothing designed using innovative fabric technology developed especially for shipping.
All proceeds from the trip will be donated to the Space Prize Foundation, dedicated to promoting gender equality in science and technology.
SpaceVIP said: “Chef Rasmus’ imaginative creations will enhance every step of the experience, inspired by the role of space exploration in human history and society. Through Holistic Cuisine, Chef Rasmus aims to inspire thought and conversation about humanity’s relationship with the Earth.”
Roman Chiporukha, Founder of SpaceVIP, added: “This unprecedented culinary odyssey marks a pivotal moment in human history. Through the visionary collaboration with Chef Rasmus Munk and Ogier, this mission redefines private space exploration and fine dining.”
