Tragic irony that on February 28 he would celebrate his 65th birthday
The news of the death of the beloved artist, Manolis Lidakis, who passed away two days before closing 65, has been scattered.
Manolis Lidakis had recently been suffering due to health problems. His health adventure seemed to have ended. Unfortunately, however, today, as it became known, the artist left his last breath, as his brother, Yiannis Lidakis, confirmed.
After the last surgery in which he had been submitted, the 64 -year -old Manolis was hosted by his friends in an apartment in the area of Anisara in Hersonissos. Today, his friends searched for him, he did not answer the phone and a little later he was found dead.
Curriculum vitae
Manolis Lidakis was born in Heraklion on February 28, 1960 and began to deal with music from a very young age. In his nine years he began his studies at the Conservatory where he studied theory of music, guitar and winds.
His first “official” contact with live performances took place at the two Heraklion Philharmonic Orchestras, in which Manolis Lidakis played an Interior and Trumpet from 1970 to 1977.
In 1982 he enlisted in the army. In the years that passed, Manolis Lidakis worked as a musician and singer in taverns and bouquets of Crete.
In Athens, motivated by friends, she takes part in the TV show “Here’s the Opportunity”. This participation led him to sign his first contract with a record label.
The first album was made with George Katsaros in lyrics by Elias Lymberopoulos and titled “After You”.
Followed by his participation in the album “Talk to me” with Eleni Dimou and Yiannis Parios.
He also participated in Yiannis Markopoulos’s “Reportage” albums with George Dalaras, “First Night in Athens” by Nikos Xydakis and in several others.
Since 1983, when Manolis Lidakis started his record label he sang in many nightclubs along with big names and participated in concerts throughout Greece.
In 1988 he changed his record label. He signs with Sony Music and the big hits begin. “Station” is considered the album “I didn’t even ask” released in 1990. A album signed by: Dimitra Galani, Yiannis Spanos, Stamatis Krounakis, Arleta, Lina Nikolakopoulou, Eftychia Papayannopoulou, Manolis Chiotis.
In May 1992, the album “Ship Tonight” was released. In this album, Manolis Lidakis clearly gives his interpretive mark in a way unparalleled in songs by V. Tsitsani, Bayandera, K. Ernani, Dim. Christodoulou, I. Papaioannou, T. Grace, Ef. Papayannopoulou et al. The album became platinum (over 60,000 sales).
In June 1995, the new album “4 Circles” was released. Title of the first round “Everyone tells me what to do” with songs by Vassos Alagiannis. Title of the second round “Songs by Dimitris Gogou or Bayandera”. Title of the third round “With the wings of love” with songs by Elias Katsoulis and Tasos Grus and title of the fourth
Circle “Nights in Freattida” with songs by: Maria Papadopoulou, Thodoris Goni, Tassos Rendzis, Markou Spyrlidakis, Kostas Papadopoulos, K. Vougiouklakis and two covers by Thymios Papadopoulos. Another complete work by the great performer. The album has become gold and to date has reached 40,000 sales.
In April 1997 a CD single with two old Cretan songs was released by himself, which became platinum. Title of “Stars Don’t Wrap Me”.
In June 1998, his new album entitled “The Sun of January” was released.
The songs are signed by Yiannis Spathas, Orpheus Peridis, Haris and Panos Katsimichas, Thodoris Gonis, Alkinoos Ioannides. The album soon became gold, and to date it has approached 50,000.
December 99. A double cd entitled “Like Old Wine” is released. The first cd includes live songs live recorded in the last five years at Manolis’ concerts. The second contains twelve anecdotal recordings of old good folk songs. Within a short period of time the album became platinum and, to date, has sold 80000 double albums (160,000 according to IFPI measurements at that time).
June 2001. The album “Dream Material” is released. Of the fourteen songs of the album, the seven have been composed by George Andreou, while two of them have written the lyrics (“I with love Mally”, “With a Secret Oath”) in a third song, George Andreou is experimenting with his traditional songs. It is the “if the soul had a voice”. Kostas Livadas has written “to meet” and “I have you I have you”. Two songs are by Socrates Malama in lyrics by Alki Alkaiou. In the song that gives the title to the album and inspired by William Shakespeare’s “trick”, Manolis Lidakis sings a duet with Eleni Tsaligopoulou.
April 2004. The album “The Key” is released. Songs coming from a group of renowned composers and songwriters who have submitted their credentials to Greek song in previous years. In the summer of 2005, the cd “What I Hell You” is released. It is an album that includes its earlier successes, four brand new songs and one DVD.
In February 2006, Manolis Lidakis releases another album, entitled ‘Red Beach’. The album includes 14 songs produced by itself. They stand out his introductory album, “Chorus in the rhythm of Pentozalis” by Manos Hatzidakis, which is the orchestral theme of “Kapetan Michalis” by Nikos Kazantzakis and the Cretan Rizitite “Garden”.
In 2007, Manolis Lidakis travels us with “Strictly Laikon” in time, interpreting favorite classic folk songs of great artists such as: Vassilis Tsitsani, Apostolos Kaldara, Mikis Theodorakis, Christos Nikolopoulos, Antonis Revanas
