It will turn Southeast Europe into a vital clean energy transfer hub between Egypt and the European Union
The project of electrical interconnection Greece-Egypt (GREGY) presented at “Power Summit 2024” in Sophiahighlighting him its key role in reshaping the energy future of South East Europecreating a green energy corridor that will turn Southeast Europe into a vital clean energy transfer hub between Egypt and the European Union.
During his speech at the Forum, the Vice President of the Kopelouzo Group, Thomas Acheimastosdescribed how this integrated project in the EU PMI/PCI directory. will redefine regional energy dynamics. The project plans to direct a third of its green energy capacity to Bulgaria and through this electricity will be available for transmission up to Slovakia, Hungary and Ukrainemarking an important step in the European energy transition, bringing continuous green energy at competitive prices.
“GREGY, accelerating the green transition in many countries of the N.A. of Europe, represents a new era of innovation and cooperation for Europe, which will create immediate access to clean energy, enhance the stability and reliability of the N.A. grid. of Europe and all this with competitive energy costs, ensuring the reduction of CO2 emissions, reducing dependence on Russian gas and strengthening the competitiveness of the industry”, noted Mr. Heimastos.
GREGY is designed to operate independently and will be a cornerstone in the creation of a vertical South-North energy corridorbut if required it can work in conjunction with other international networks. This flexibility ensures maximum utility and adaptability to the evolving global energy landscape.
The strategic timing of the project and its alignment with the EU’s climate goals position it as a critical component in Europe’s goals for energy security and environmental sustainability.
