It calls for meaningful consultation between all parties and calls for time to see the results of the new berth management systems
The implementation of the new fee for the cruise from 2026 after the start of a dialogue with the relevant bodies of the sector, the International Cruise Association CLIA requests in its announcement.
It is noted that on the subject, the Minister of Tourism proceeded to specify the measures for cruise fees after the Prime Minister’s announcement to the TIF. The minister announced that a special fee is imposed per passenger disembarking from a cruise ship at the ports of Mykonos and Santorini of 20 euros and at the rest of the country’s ports 5 euros for the period from June 1 to September 30 of each year.
He also stated that in the months of April, May and October the fee will be 40% reduced (i.e. 12 and 3 euros respectively), while for the months of November to March it will be reduced by 80% (i.e. 4 and 1 euros respectively). “We encourage the government to consider the potential economic impact of the new per passenger charge on cruise tourism and reiterate our call for meaningful consultation with cruise lines, local government, ports and tourism operators affected by it,” he says in CLIA statement.
It also points out that from 2025 the new berth management systems will be implemented in Santorini and Mykonos and therefore calls on the government to implement the new fee from 2026 onwards, allowing the impact of these systems to be taken into account . It also welcomes the comments of the Minister of Tourism regarding the importance of port infrastructure for improving the management of tourist flows, but also the desire to highlight new destinations, priorities that are aligned with the CLIA Action Plan for Greece, adopted last year.
