They react to upcoming changes to the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure
The lawyers of Thessaloniki will abstain from their duties until 5/1/2024, calling for the repeal of the self-employed tax bill passed last week, while also reacting to upcoming changes to the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure.
During yesterday’s general meeting of the Thessaloniki Bar Association, the escalation of the reactions and the context of the mobilizations were decided. Among other things, regarding criminal cases, the city’s lawyers will abstain from trials of prisoners whose 18-month pretrial detention expires even from interrogations (these proceedings were outside the scope of abstention in the past).
It was also decided to participate in rally in the following days together with other professional bodies of Thessaloniki.
For their further stance, the lawyers will take a decision at a new General Assembly set for 5/1/2024.
