Inspired by Byzantium but also by New York
Its logo was released on Wednesday Thessaloniki Metrowhich was presented at an event in the presence of the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, at the Pylaia depot.
According to the thesstoday, inspired by Byzantium but also by… New York is the logo of the Thessaloniki metro, which was presented in the morning by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Christos Staikouras.
“The goal was to create an identity, a logo that would give the historicity of Thessaloniki. It will combine tradition with modern aesthetics and functionality. “Thessaloniki will have the most modern transport in Europe and at the same time it highlights its magnificent past,” said Christos Staikouras.
He also pointed out that the lowercase “m” was chosen to directly refer to the subway, but at the same time to be different from the capital “M”. “It is the “m” simplified from the Byzantine “m” so that it combines authenticity, purity and recognition in a modern transportation system, so that it is easy to read in every use,” he said characteristically.
Referring to the time he is counting down to the opening of the metro, he said: “In 17 days, the metro project will be handed over to the citizens. A project that will change the everyday life of the city. As the political leadership of the ministry we are working to deliver a perfect project. And we place special emphasis both on strengthening the transport project and on its quality upgrade.
For his part, the responsible deputy minister, Nikos Tahiaos emphasized that the measure combines past and future. “It has an identity in the past and looks to the future. The lower case “m” was transformed into a modern logo and as such will now characterize the city”, he pointed out.
What the creator of the logo says
Chrysoula Krousteni, the head of the architectural department of “Hellenic Metro”, who was inspired and created the logo, explained that: “The research for the study is elements taken from outside, that is, from the subway of New York, London, etc. . Some opinions were taken and certainly the research process also focused on the art and architectural physiognomy of Thessaloniki”, he noted, while explaining in blueprints the way in which the specific identity was chosen.
