How does Brigadier Verros justify his request
Given the record number Turks visitors to the islands of the north-eastern Aegean this summer as a result of the implementation of the “express visa” measure at the ports of entry of the islands, for the seven-day stay of Turkish visitors in Greece and given that this measure expires next March, the President of Regional Union of North Aegean Municipalities and Mayor of West Lesvos Brigadier Verros calls on the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Citizen Protection and Tourism to promptly investigate the possibilities of extending its validity for the next year as well.
According to APE BEE, Taxiarchis Verros, conveying the anxiety of the tourism operators in the islands of the North Aegean for the extension of the successful measure that was co-decided during the meeting of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the Turkish President Recep Erdogan notes, among other things, in the letter to the Ministers Gerapetritis, Chrysochoidis and Kefalogiannis, addressed also to the office of the Prime Minister:
“The visa express measure admittedly contributed significantly to the strengthening of the tourist flow from Turkey and to the general effort to restore the tourism of our islands and knowing that it was a pilot, which during its first application first required several procedures, synergies of Ministries and negotiations still and at the level of the European Commission, we are now asking for an update on how this can be extended seamlessly beyond March 2025.”
