The exercise scenario involved an aircraft accident at an airport
THE Fraport Greecethe management and operation body of the 14 regional airports in Greece, successfully carried out, in cooperation with all relevant bodies, a large-scale planned emergency exercise (Emergency Exercise) at the airport of Kefalonia “Anna Pollatou”.
In carrying out the exercise, and beyond the executives of Fraport Greece, all those involved, in these cases agencies, and specifically, the Hellenic Police (EL.AS), the Fire Brigade (P.S.), the National Center of Immediate Aid (E.K.A.B), the Health Operations Center, the National Organization for the Investigation of Air and Railway Accidents and Transport Safety (EODASAAM), the Autonomous Civil Protection Directorate of the Ionian Islands Region, the Civil Aviation Authority (A.P.A. .) and involved bodies from the airport, such as the ground handling operator and the Security Service Provider.
The exercise scenario involved an aircraft accident at an airport. With the occurrence of the incident, the airport’s Emergency Response Plan was immediately activated, with the parallel initiation of the relevant operational procedures.
In particular, actions for the rescue, the provision of first aid in the field and the transport of the occupants were put into operation, in excellent coordination between the agencies involved. At the same time, the airport’s Crisis Management Center was activated to coordinate the incident and the non-injured passenger and crew reception centers were activated to support the victims.
The purpose of conducting the large-scale exercise was the assessment and any improvement of the operational level of response to such an eventbut mainly the analysis of the pace of cooperation and interoperability of the involved bodies, in dealing with such a crisis.
After the successful implementation of the large-scale exercise, which was carried out in cooperation with all relevant agencies, Mr. Panagiotis Spyratos, Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Fraport Greece, stated this: “The successful conduct of the specific large-scale exercise that took place at Kefalonia’s “Anna Pollatou” airport through the cooperation of Fraport Greece and the other involved bodies, is of critical importance for the safety of airports and flights. Fraport Greece, given its commitment to providing a high level of security to passengers, as well as to the related links of air transport, has a wider strategic plan, part of which is this particular exercise. This plan is implemented on a permanent basis – in all 14 regional airports managed and operated by the company – including, among other things, the renewal of infrastructure, compliance of procedures and operations with the highest European and international standards, as well as staff training with the aim of maintaining and upgrading the already high level of security available at all 14 regional airports”.
