They praise our country for its beauties
The British cast a “vote of confidence” in Greece Times for holidays and after the high season, choosing beaches from places that suit different types of travelers.
“From the shores of the mainland to the sandy beaches and coves of its myriad islands and islets, Greece boasts an endless number of beaches. Visitors who are ready to stray from established tourist spots have almost infinite options for unforgettable experiences” says the dedication of Times as reported by the Athens News Agency.
Starting photographically with the blue-green waters of Mylopotas of Ios, the popular British newspaper recommends Chios for cool dips, Lipsi for off-the-beaten-path adventure, Astypalaia with its pirate lairs, Crete with its “silver” beaches, Skopelos for isolation, the enchanting Attica, Antiparos for family moments, Naxos for experiences without crowds, the dreamy Koufonisia and the verdant Skiathos. The list has a strong Ionian “fragrance” with Ithaca, Kefalonia, Antipaxos, Lefkada and Zakynthos “ecstatic” with their exotic beaches. The tribute concludes with worldly Mykonos, Tinos for water sports, beautiful Alonissos, Messinia with coasts that have “geometric beauty”, Ios, special Elafonisos, charming Kea, impressive Epirus and Karpathos that delights with colors and its geological formations.
Representatives of destinations on the list speak to APE about this season:
The Mayor of Lipson, Fotis Maggos, reports: “It is important that the traffic in Leipsi moved to levels higher than in 2022 but also in 2019 proving that travelers are looking for authentic destinations that respect the environment. Our initiatives for quality tourist services without the arbitrary intervention in nature, which unfortunately we now find in many other Greek islands, were duly appreciated by visitors from Greece and abroad”.
“Ios showed a 7.4% increase in arrivals for the entire period from April to August 2023, compared to the previous year. This positive development also reflects the effort we are making to boost the destination’s visitation outside of the high season with incentives for activities, gastronomy, monuments and culture”, notes the President of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Ieton Plutonas Koritsiadis.
“The quarter June – August 2023 concluded for Karpathos with a significant increase of 10.24% in air arrivals compared to 2022. Visitors from Italy, Greece, Austria, Holland, Scandinavia, Germany, Eastern Europe and Israel responded to our multifaceted call this year “, said the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Karpathos, Manolis Paragyios.
“Astypalaia is going through another good season. Coastal arrivals until the end of August “broke” the barrier of 2022 with 26,140 visitors forming a new, very remarkable performance. The increase in the number of travelers from Europe as well as distant markets such as America is a qualitative element that is in line with the modern narrative that we have been broadcasting in recent years for a destination of authenticity, sustainability, gastronomy and culture”, emphasized the Mayor of Astypalaia, Nikos Komineas.
